The Lamplodshausen team have been engaged in the research, design, development and refinement of ion propulsion systems since 1970. Since that time, the space proven Radio-frequency Ion Thruster Assembly (RITA) was developed and successfully proven aboard EURECA and Artemis after having set several world records for operational duration.
A key element of the RITA system is the Xenon regulator. A version of this regulator, known as the XRFS, is being upgraded for both increased versatility and operational performance.
The key features of the XRFS regulator are:
Upstream operating pressure capability of 130 bar, with improvements planned for 190 bar.
Adjustable downstream pressure regulated by control electronics.
Flow rate optimised for SPT 100 and PPS 1350 compatibility.
Fully redundant system.
3 inhibits against leakage.
Pressure transducers, seal material and heaters are ITAR controlled.
Xenon throughput mass in total: 300kg
Flow rate: 0 mg/s to 20 mg/s (currently)
